I’ve been interviewed by Profitable Mommy Blogging

Over the last several months, I have been honored to be interviewed quite a few times.  As a way to get to know me a little better, I thought that I would share some of these interviews with you.  I’d love your comments!

Here’s the interview…

This week for ‘Buzz a Mom’ I had the pleasure of interviewing Kelli Claypool.  In addition to being a busy wife and mom, Kelli is the co-owner of Briefcase Diva and Diva Talk Radio; just two of the places she works to empower, motivate and encourage women.

Here’s what Kelli shared with me:

I LOVE the name Briefcase Diva!  Is there a story behind the name?

Thank you! I love the name too.

My passion, for many years, has been to promote women in business. We are moms and wives and daughters and business owners and taxi drivers and classroom helpers and bathroom doctors (for the boo-boos) and lovers to our significant others and, and, and… the list goes on.  As women we are pulled in so many different directions that sometimes we need to be encouraged and motivated by other women who have been there, done that and are still doing it.

I want women to look in the mirror and see someone who is priceless. Someone who is valuable.  Someone who makes a difference in so many ways. Often times we put ourselves on hold so that we can tend to our family’s needs…and that’s okay, there’s nothing wrong with that.  But, we allow ourselves to get into a rut and before long we lose sight of who we really are.

So, BriefcaseDiva came to fruition as a means to encourage and motivate women to follow their dreams. And to arm women with tools, support, and education that will empower them to be the best that they can be.  I am inspired, on a daily basis, by the wonderful women that come through the “virtual” doors of BriefcaseDiva.  These women rock!

You define “Diva” in your blog header as “a woman who is strong in her faith, blessed by her family, and who encourages others to rise up to their greatest potential!”

Don’t you just love that definition? It just puts a whole new spin on the implications of a Diva.

Yes, I do love love it!! Can you tell us about a Diva in your life who encouraged you?

I would have to say, my grandmother (Big Mama) was an encouragement in my life. She was a strong woman who did not allow struggles to get her down.  When my grandfather passed away, she was in her 50’s and didn’t know how to drive.  Instead of allowing that to be a disability to her, she was determined that she would learn, she did, and obtained her driver’s license.  Little things like learning to write a check or balancing a checkbook was all new to her, but she put on her big-girl panties and done it.

As a Diva yourself, please share with us some ways your family blesses (supports) your online activities?

Wow, this is a loaded question because I could write a book on this topic alone.  I believe I’m the luckiest girl in the world because I have a husband that supports me and my ideas (even the silly ones).  His unconditional love & support allows me to put in long hours when I need to and he knows that I’m not “playing” at the computer.  He allows me to bounce ideas off of him and never tells me that I’m crazy…even though I think I am sometimes. He’s simply the best!

My favorite part of your definition is that a Diva encourages others.  How do you use your blog and talk show to encourage women to rise up to their greatest potential?

By being transparent. With me, what you see is what you get. I don’t claim to know it all and there are times that I may do something or say something that are not agreeable with others.  But, I’m real. With my blog and talk show, I want a fun atmosphere for women to be themselves, vent when they need to, brag when they’re excited, and give them a shoulder to lean on. I like to have guests (speakers, bloggers) who will bring something of value, whether it be in education, raising awareness, or encouragement. That’s what makes us rise to the top.

You share Briefcase Diva and Diva Talk Radio with a partner, Regina Smola.  What tips do you have for making a partnership (joint venture) with another Diva successful?

I can sum it up in two words…Like-Minds. A partner should share your vision and have an agreement that it’s okay to disagree at times. Having an open communication is also key. Always discuss things, good or bad, and work through things to build and strengthen your relationship.

Wow!  You are definitely right about having a shared vision with those we work with!  Thank you, Kelli, for taking the time to talk with me about how you are living as a Diva business woman.  I, for one, feel inspired to look for ways to encourage other women through blogging.

If you would like to know more about Briefcase Diva, Diva Talk Radio or connect with Kelli, you can follow her on Twitter at @krclaypool, @BriefcaseDiva and @DivaTalkRadio.

lexirodrigoLexi Rodrigo is an internet marketer, freelance copywriter, and mother of three. She is an avid blogger and writer, as well as an advocate of natural parenting and eco-friendly living.

Lexi has been copywriting for 19 years. She has extensive experience and education as a writer and marketer. Speaking as a mom/marketer myself, it’s both interesting and inspirational to find someone who has had an experience so close to my own.

Lexi’s writings hit close to home; the trials and travails of a work-at-home internet marketing mom are all too familiar to me, and perhaps to some of you Divas out there as well. I think that we can all learn a lot from Lexi, so I ask that you consider reading her blogs:

Our Tribute to Military Wives, Moms, Sisters & Aunts – July 1st

This is a short video that will give you a little bit of a feel for what our July 1st show is about. The show is dedicated to women with loved ones in the armed services; to thank them for their sacrifice. All women with loved ones serving in the military are welcome. We felt it was appropriate, given the upcoming July 4th holiday.

Divas, please don’t miss this chance to thank the brave women who may never see a battlefield, but still have to fight our wars too.

I look forward to your seeing you Military Divas at the show (Wednesday, July 1st at 2:00 p.m EST). Of course, if you absolutely cannot make it to the live show, replays will be available.

That’s it for now! Until next time…wear your heels well!

P.S. Will you please tweet about our show? I’d love to spread the word and invite as many women as possible.  Likewise, I’d love your feedback.

Lorrie Thomas of Web Marketing Therapy is our Featured Guest on 6/24/09

Lorrie Thomas is the founder of Web Marketing Therapy, a company that offers web marketing advice and solutions to Internet entrepreneurs. Many of her clients find it useful to have a guide when navigating the wilderness of the web environment; Lorrie and her “wild web woman” team are the experienced and savvy trailblazers that can turn any business’s marketing strategy in a profitable direction.

Lorrie is an amazing and intriguing woman with an extremely interesting style. As a marketer, she often thinks and writes in “sound bytes”, memorable short phrases that are readily quotable. I interviewed Lorrie recently for A Truly Outstanding Woman spotlight on BriefcaseDiva and was impressed with the quippy gems that would emerge from her responses to  my questions.

For example, when I asked what significant obstacles she had to overcome in her business, her tendency towards perfectionism was at the top of her list. But she defeated this destructive tendency with the 10-10-10 rule, which was good enough that I must include it here. In Lorrie’s words: “Does it matter in ten minutes, ten months or ten years? Then I prioritize.” Wow.

Simple, but it’s little things like this that separate failing businesses from successful companies like Web Marketing Therapy.

Other quotable quotes from Lorrie: “Women entrepreneurs succeed when they don’t settle.”  ”Giving away my expertise is what pays my bills.” “The most dangerous words are “I KNOW THAT”.

Lorrie Thomas is a family woman in addition to being a “wild web woman“, spending much of her time simply being with her loved ones, friends, and family. She lists hiking, traveling, and volunteering as a few of the many activities that she loves to do. A force around the world as well in her local area (Santa Barbara, California), Lorrie is frequently interviewed for her marketing expertise and is recognized worldwide as an expert on internet marketing.

Just like DivaTalkRadio and BriefcaseDiva, Web Marketing Therapy has a market of primarily women; however, men love her site too.  In fact, she has a “non-estrogen” member of her Wild Web Women team…we call them “Divos” here on DivaTalkRadio.

Lorrie’s charismatic and bubbly personality fits in perfectly fine with the Divas and I can’t wait to have her on our upcoming show.  You will instantly become a huge fan of Lorrie’s and the team over at Web Marketing Therapy…I promise!!

So, here’s what you need to do:

1. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, June 24th at 2:00 p.m. EST to listen to DivaTalkRadio LIVE.

2. Visit Web Marketing Therapy and learn all you can about Lorrie and her team.  You’ll love their site and all of the information that they pour into it just so YOU can succeed.  This is definitely a site a bookmark.

3. Post questions in the comment section below and I’ll be sure to ask Lorrie for you during the LIVE show.

4. Follow Lorrie on Twitter @LorrieThomas and @WebTherapist.  Be sure to tell her that you a looking forward to her interview on DivaTalkRadio!

This is one Diva you do not want to miss! I’ll look forward to your questions & seeing you at the show (Wednesday, June 24th at 2:00 p.m EST). Of course, if you absolutely cannot make it to the live show, replays will be available.

That’s it for now! Until next time…wear your heels well!

Michael McCann is our Featured Guest for 06/17/09

3

3Michael McCann is the author of  Husband-ry 101: How to Train Your Husband to Be the Spouse You’ve Always Wanted Him to Be. Michael has been speaking on marital communications for five years, since the first edition of Husband-ry 101 was published in 2004. A humorous and down-to-earth feel to his presentations ensures that his audience is comfortable and receptive to what he has to say, complimented by his trademark props.

Michael first got into the field of marital communications 8 years ago, after a conversation with his wife in the car. He and his wife were in the car talking about the same subject, even agreeing with each other, but neither could understand what the other was trying to convey. (This is something that I’m sure has happened to all of us at some point.) During the course of the conversation, Michael’s wife suggested that since he was a writer (business writer at the time)  he should write a book on marital communication.  Three years and many wife interviews later, Husband-ry 101 was born.

Michael first noticed that many of his friends and business contacts during his time as a business writer asked him about how they could improve their marriage. Explaining why, he says “these people would see my wife and I together and we actually ‘like’ each other.” Eventually, given the quality of his marriage, his abilities as a writer, and the prompting of his wife, Husband-ry 101 would come to be.

The current book is the second addition of Husbandry 101, and its chief distinguishing characteristic from the first book is the addition of more research on marriage in America. Michael has heard from wives of several other countries that in their opinion marriage in America “is not that far off from marriage in their country psychologically.” The additional research on American marriages should be of some use to those of us who want to train our American hubbies a little bit more.

Michael McCann has a BBA in Marketing from Baylor University (Waco, TX) and MBA from Texas A&M (Corpus Christi, TX). With over 25 years of writing experience and 8 years of wife interviews behind him, he is an expert in the field of marital communications. He lives in The Woodlands, Texas with his wife. He has been happily married for 24 years and is extremely proud of his 31-year-old stepson.

Please visit Michael’s humurous and enjoyable website at husband-ry.com.  You can contact Cheryl for information on Michael’s availability and appearances:

  • E-mail Cheryl
  • Phone Cheryl at 713-703-5608 (Houston, TX) or 800-431-6933
  • Mail to: P.O. Box 7723 The Woodlands, TX 77387

Don’t forget to Tweet these wonderful folks at @hubby101 for Michael and @huggy101 for Cheryl.

You can listen live on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. EST and interact with us in our webchat by going to DivaTalkRadio.com/live. Also, phone lines will be open during the show for all your questions and comments.

That’s it for now.  Until next time, wear your heels well and we’ll see YOU at the show!

Theresa Wing Hines is our Featured Guest 6/10/09

theresa-hines

theresa-hinesTheresa Wing Hines is our featured guest on June 10, 2009.  Theresa founded One Pearl in 2004, after her son entered wilderness therapy for behavioral problems. She explains how the core concept of One Pearl came to her in this excerpt from a blog post:

“the analogy of the pearl and my son popped into my head. An epiphany. The perfect metaphor. The pearl. An object placed in a foreign environment, nurtured and coated with nacre, emerging a beautiful and unique gem. My son, placed in a foreign environment, cut off from the rest of the world, nurtured and coated with therapy, emerging a beautiful and unique gem. Perfect. My Pearl.

After that idea came to me, I had to figure out how to market it, how to make people notice it. It was then that I decided to put one contrasting pearl on every piece of jewelry to symbolize the transformation of someone, if only given the chance.

A black or white pearl, on every piece, with the hope that someone will ask why is that one pearl there? To then be given the chance to say, this pearl represents a child who has been transformed with my help, through the purchase of this necklace/bracelet. BAM! One Pearl was born.”

Wow…it’s not often that we hear stories like this. It’s incredibly admirable what Theresa did in creating One Pearl, and what she has continued to do  with her company since then. One Pearl has its origins in a rise-from-the-ashes story worthy of a Lifetime Original Movie, as well as supporting several charities via “retail philanthropy”.

What this means is that One Pearl is a for-profit company, but consistently donates over fifty percent of its profits to the various charities it supports. I’ve rarely heard of a for-profit business voluntarily giving up some of its profits for any reason, and I was absolutely excited when I heard about the great things One Pearl is doing.

Theresa Wing Hines is the mother of two sons, ages 17 and 20. She says that “Of my life experiences, travel has probably had the biggest impact on me.” At a very young age, Theresa’s family moved to Bangladesh (formerly East Pakistan) and stayed for two and a half years.

The family traveled extensively in Asia and Africa during this time, forming the basis for Theresa’s lifelong wanderlust. When her son (then sixteen, now 20) attended wilderness therapy camp followed immediately by therapeutic boarding school, Theresa fought off her depression, guilt, and grief by starting One Pearl. Five years later Theresa, her son, and her company are all going strong.

This seems like it’s going to be an incredible show. Divas, tune in to hear about Theresa’s amazing story.

Be sure to visit Theresa’s site at OnePearl.com

You can listen live and interact with us by going to DivaTalkRadio.com/live.

That’s it for now.  Until next time, wear your heels well and we’ll see YOU at the show!

P.S. You’ve gotta check out Theresa’s gorgeous jewelry. I’m so jones’in for the pearl bracelet. Okay…I want EVERYTHING on the site.  Yep, I’m making a wishlist!!

Jenica McKenzie is our Featured Guest 6/3/09

Jenica McKenzie is one of the four founders of ShuAddikt.com, a logo_blueDallas-based boutique shoe store that caters to clients who want high fashion shoes at reasonable prices. ShuAddikt is built around personal relationships with its customers and offers many innovative and complimentary services that cater to specific client needs, such as their concierge service.

The Additk’shun Begins

Jenica started ShuAddikt and ShuAddikt.com in late 2008 with three of her friends and fellow Texas Tech alums. The boutique has been innovative, caring for its customer base in a new and different way with many complimentary services not offered by competing businesses.

Jenica has utilized her education and years of experience to formulate marketing strategies that allow her company to turn a profit and grow their local customer base even in these tough economic times.

From Tupperware Parties to Trunk Shows

Marketing strategies are ever-shifting by nature, but some things remain constant. One of these marketing constants is that consumers appreciate it when businesses cater to them, especially if it’s free. This strategy is at the heart of Shu Addikt’s success. Their stated objective is for Shu Addikt to be a company that “strives to create a culture of individual women united by
their passion for trendsetting style.”

Towards this end, they offer a number of complimentary special services that are expressly designed to encourage relationship-building between the boutique and its clients. The concierge service is a prime example of this marketing philosophy.

Shu Addikt explains the concierge concept this way: “A personal stylist will get to know a client’s personality, style and the qualities she looks for when purchasing shoes. The same stylist will always be the point of contact to offer advice, help stay current on trends and offer selections that match her fashion profile.

Additionally, the stylist can be utilized for major events or special occasions to assist in pairing the appropriate shoes with an outfit or to compliment a client’s accessories.” This philosophy of personal relationships will help keep Shu Addikt going even in difficult economic times, due to the loyalty of the customer base.

About Jenica

Jenica McKenzie is in charge of general management at Shu Addikt, but that’s not all she does. She also owns BluePrint Marketing Group, a business development firm, and serves as Director of Marketing for a leading consumer packaged goods company based in Dallas, TX.

With 13 years of experience in marketing and strategic business planning, a bachelor’s in business administration from Texas Tech, and a Masters in Business Administration, this Diva has what it takes to succeed!

Be sure to check out Jenica’s website, and leave some of those fabulous heels for me!

Be sure to tune in to DivaTalkRadio on Wednesday, June 3rd at 2:00 p.m. EST to hear about Shu Addikt and all its great services!

You can listen live and interact with us by going to http://DivaTalkRadio.com/live.
