Why is Magnesium so Important to a Woman’s Health?

Right_Tilt_Head

On the next episode of DivaTalkRadio, Kelli will be talking with Dr. Carolyn Dean about the importance magnesium has on a woman’s health. After talking with Dr. Dean and reading her book The Magnesium Miracle, Kelli was empowered to take a closer look at her magnesium intake.

About 43 percent of the US population (almost 70 percent of older women) use dietary supplements containing calcium; but Carolyn Dean, MD, ND, warns that, without balancing their calcium with magnesium, they may be at risk. Dr. Dean, magnesium expert and Medical Director of the nonprofit Nutritional Magnesium Association at www.nutritionalmagnesium.org, says most people, including the majority of medical doctors, do not understand key facts about calcium and its sister mineral, magnesium:

• Typically, less than half of calcium intake is absorbed in the gut,the rest either being excreted or potentially forming kidney stones or being transported to soft tissues where it can harden (calcify).

• Adequate levels of magnesium are essential for the absorption and metabolism of calcium and vitamin D.

Magnesium converts vitamin D into its active form so that it can aid calcium absorption. Magnesium also stimulates the hormone calcitonin, which helps to preserve bone structure and draws calcium out of the blood and soft tissues back into the bones, lowering the likelihood of osteoporosis, some forms of arthritis, heart attack and kidney stones.

• There is a growing amount of scientific evidence pointing to high calcium–low magnesium intake leading to calcification, or hardening, of arteries (atherosclerosis—the number one cause of death in the US), osteoporosis and osteoporotic bone fractures.

Dr. Dean is a health pioneer with over 25 years of experience with nutrition, diet and health issues. She’s authored 22 books including “Future Health Now Encyclopedia”, “The Complete Natural Guide to Women’s Health,  “Hormone Balance”, “Menopause Naturally”, “365 Ways to Boost Your Brain Power: Tips, Exercise, Advice”, “The Yeast Connection”, “IBS for Dummies” and “The Magnesium Miracle”.

Celebrate Your Child’s Talents with a Resume’

Kris_Manley_on_DivaTalkRadio

Celebrate your child’s talents, gifts, accomplishments, awards and even challenges. How? Glad you asked – by developing their resume.

Choosing activities that provide your child with life skills as well as build character is a key element to their success. Documenting those is also a key element to their success. Why? Keeping before them a present visual reminder of their activities, awards, accomplishments, gifts, talents, etc., gives encouragement and pride in what they do and have done. It also allows them to see how well they have progressed over the years. In other words, you will assist your child in “behaving” their way to success.

A resume for a child:

* Boosts self-esteem
* Presents a child in such a way that others will want to invest in that child
* Shows that a child’s accomplishments go beyond his or her report card
* Affirms the importance of what a child does

Kris Manley wrote this wonderful guide, Resumes for Children – 17 Years Old and Under, because she saw a missing piece. Parents talk about their children’s activities, accomplishments, awards, and challenges, but most parents don’t document them. Resumes for Children – 17 Years Old and Under gives parents a great start because a child will someday need a resume. So let’s be proactive and begin early.

Overcoming Adversity with Chitoka Webb

Dallas2

Chitoka Webb is a successful business owner, motivational speaker and author who lives in Hendersonville, TN.

Raised by her single mother, Webb grew up in the Preston Taylor housing projects, landed her first job in a grocery store at only 13 years old. When a senior in High School, she was told by school authorities she couldn’t graduate with her class just a week before the ceremony due to being one point short in her chemistry class. Now, in her mid-30s, Webb owns several businesses—that she founded.

She began her self employed career at 23. In 1999 Webb left Nashville and moved to Atlanta, where she nurtured numerous relationships with professional athletes and successful business leaders. Working as the only female barber alongside 14 other male barbers. Her highlight moment came during Super Bowl XXXIV when she was invited by her client Anthony Dorsett (Son of football great Tony Dorsett) to attend the event as their barber. After much success and accomplishing set goals she returned to Nashville in pursuit of a dream to own her own barbershop, which she opened in October 2001. She worked three full time jobs for three months to make this dream a reality.

Her life and business motto is “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” pulling herself up by the bootstraps these humble beginnings brought more success. After developing two health care agencies and a new state-of-the-art barbershop Webb developed Chitoka L.Webb Holdings, Inc. which oversees her professional ventures, and the early development stages of a Foundation which supports her community service projects

Through her impressive business growth, Webb suffered blindness for six months as a result of Behcet’s disease. High doses of Steroidal eye injections and medications corrected her failed eye sight. The Behcet’s diagnosis led Webb to write her memoir, Something Inside of Me (Greenleaf Book Group, July 1, 2011).

Some of Webb’s successes include being appointed by the governor of Tennessee as a board of trustee to a state appointed board, a mentor for the Nashville Juvenile Justice Center, president of the Nashville Chamber of Commerce Business Council and being elected to the prestigious Entrepreneurs Organization. Webb currently volunteers as an auditor for the Nashville United Way and serves as a board member for the Middle Tennessee YMCA.

Dress to Manifest with Fashionista Stephanie Ford

MEin5D® (me in five dimensions) is the way to Dress To Manifest™ your unique personality characteristics. Through the application of MEin5D Style Guides, the Holistic Fashion and Lifestyle concept explores how design elements (e.g. color, material, silhouettes) can be used to activate and enhance empowering aspects of the personality. MEin5D’s mission is to inspire self exploration and authentic expression of the individual.

The following 5 dimensional (5D) aspects of the human experience are examined for the creation of Style Guides and on a more individualized basis when designing custom collections.

Emotional  *  Mental  *  Physical  *  Spiritual  *  Soul

Stephanie Ford was born in Washington D.C. in October 1982. Raised mainly in the suburbs of Maryland she was fortunate to be exposed to diversity and culture on an international level during childhood. While many interests were fleeting she was drawn to nature, exploration and had a tendency to make cardboard handbags for craft projects.

After completing undergraduate studies in Business Management and Marketing at Drexel University in 2005, Stephanie entered the corporate world working for an IT consulting firm. Instantly stifled by the 9-5 grind Stephanie decided that an immediate re-evaluation of her life goals and expectations was in order.

She relocated to Paris in January 2008 in discovery of the creative side of life and to complete post graduate studies in Fashion Design Management at IFM (Institut Français de la Mode). Impassioned and inspired by her experience in the French Fashion world and her rapid acquisition of the French language Stephanie decided to leave the IFM in 2009 to
pursue the creation and development of MEin5D®.
