Hello Divas! In today’s devotion we will be talking about criticism. Yikes! I don’t know anyone who takes criticism well, do you? In Psalms 141:5-9, the Bible says “Let the godly smite me. It will be a kindness. If they reprove me, it is medicine. Don’t let me refuse it. But I am in constant prayer against the wicked and their deeds. When their leaders are condemned, and their bones are strewn across the ground, then these men will finally listen to me and know that I am trying to help them.”
Nobody really likes criticism, but everybody can benefit from it when it is given wisely and taken humbly. In the scriptures above, David suggested on how we should accept criticism:
- Don’t refuse it.
- Consider it a kindness (yeah, right! Okay, I’m still working on this one!)
- Consider the source of the criticism. Those who are have an intimate relationship with God will often have sound advice and insight.
- Don’t fight back and keep your mouth shut (Yep, I’m still working on this one too!)
Putting these suggestions into practice will help you control how you react to criticism and how to make it productive rather than destructive, no matter how it was originally intended.
As we learn to live an EXTRAordinary life, we must also learn to accept criticism from those who have our best interest. Pray with me today that the Lord will help us to accept criticism in a productive manner instead of becoming defensive.
You can do it! I believe in YOU!
