Fashion Through the Years – 1960′s Style

The 1960s were a time of some seriously trailblazing fashion. Sixties fashionistas knew how ho-hum linear, one-note style can be and did an absolutely fabulous job of shaking things up! From flower power to clean cut mod, there’s a reason why this era is one of the most enduring the sartorial sphere has ever seen.

Flower Power

I bet when I said “60s Fashion” this is exactly where your mind went, and rightfully so! Carefree music and festival cultures in the 1960s inspired fabulously floral fashions to match. The style is versatile and completely emblematic of the 60s. Want a fashion forward look? Get a blowout like our blondie on the left or embrace 2013’s love of crop tops like the lovely lady in the middle. Feeling completely carefree? Mad about Mod 

During this era the streets of Paris, New York, and fashion capitals the world over buzzed in black and white. Mod styles are perpetuated decade after decade because they’re timelessly chic. You can’t go wrong with black and white, can you? Just ask Twiggy, everyone’s favorite 60s Fashion Starlet. 50s Hangover

Now, as is usually the case, some styles are just too fabulous to quit from one decade to the next, and the business friendly styles of the 50s are no different. When it came to professional garb in the 1960s, the best dressed ladies knew where to draw their inspiration. Now, no matter how you feel about darlingly short hemlines, the miniskirt is arguably the largest contribution the 1960s made to the world of fashion. Looking for some fun, designers in the 60s took hemlines higher, higher, higher until they just had to stop. Hippie Haute Couture

While hippies are notoriously blase, 60s hippie fashions were completely deliberate, starting a sartorial movement that shows no signs of quitting, even today. Bright colors and playful proportions are critical in creating classic hippie looks.
