Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith was our guest today instructing us in true healthy weight loss as a journey. We focused on asking yourself the right questions as you get fit. Then she told us more about her wonderful book and how you can get it.
If you are embarking on a weight loss plan ask yourself:
1. What is the underlying goal you are trying to attain by losing weight? And what is it going to do for you? If its a way of validating yourself, it is a setup for disappointment.
Best perspective: See it as a health issue. This is a health journey with daily choices.
2. What short term goals do you have for your weight loss?
Instead of saying 10 lbs in 2 months. Let it be something you can control. “I will do zumba 2 days a week.” If life happens and gets in your way you can make it up at home and attain your goal. Let it be less regimented. Find ways to be flexible. You can do it on your terms.
3. What is your long term goal. If it is a number let it be a range. Ask yourself, “At what weight do I feel the best?” When you get to that number, that is the highest you should ever weigh again. Then you will find a number that you kind of sit at. Call that your “happy number.” That may be higher than the body mass index, but if you keep doing the right stuff, let God make up the result.
4. How will you define your successful plan? Get away from a certain number and tune into a good feeling!
5. When will you terminate your plan? -This is a trick question! We are looking for you to embrace the journey!
This was a great show! We encourage you to get Dr. Saundra’s book:
