We want to do the best we can for our bodies. That may mean departing from traditional medicine for many health conditions. If you can do it, is it safe for your children as well?
What Is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy involves using the body’s own defenses to heal itself. A small, dilute form of an antigen (a substance that causes a reaction by the body) is administered so that the body builds up antibodies to it over time. With each dose, the body reacts less and less to the foreign substance until a severe reaction is not even caused.
More and more people are looking to homeopathy as a companion to traditional medicinal therapy. Sometimes, using modern medicines to heal the body can lead to side effects that are just as devastating as the disease itself. Now, homeopathy doesn’t work for everything but it does show promise for many conditions.
Homeopathy was first introduced to the medical world almost 200 years ago by a German named Samuel Hahnemann. He used it to treat children and newborns. One benefit of the treatment was that it was free of toxins. The preparations were mostly herbs and plants – the basis of medicines for thousands of years.
What about Your Children?
We want our children to enjoy health in their bodies without all the chemicals and side effects that some remedies can bring about. Homeopathy is an option but many parents are concerned about whether or not alternative treatments are safe.
The answer that many experts give is the affirmative. In fact, homeopathic remedies can be given in the same dosage to children and babies as it is for adults. The same holds true for these remedies today as it did in the beginning.
In fact, homeopathic remedies are tested by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). This means that they come under scrutiny so that the user can be assured of the efficacy of the product.
Because they are developed from herbs, plants and other natural substance, they are without the side effects (if any) of traditional medicines. Also, the medicine is so dilute that it is not a problem for babies and children to digest it but it is still effective in the body. Even over the long term, there are no ill side effects.
Don’t worry about injections. Medications are given in powder, pill or dropper form and are made to taste great to your child. They probably do not interfere with traditional medicines but it is always best to inform your doctor if you are using homeopathic treatments. Homeopathy is used in children for digestive ailments, colds, ear infections, colic, vomiting, teething and fever – to name a few.
Are you considering a more natural treatment for your child? Homeopathic medicines are often considered safe for children to use, however, it is always best to check with your health care practitioner as there may be negative side effects with some remedies.

Anything that doesn’t have chemicals in it is good for both adults and children.
