Hello Divas! In today’s devotion, we are continuing our study of Psalms 141. Today, we are going to be focusing specifically on Psalms 141:4 and it says “Take away my lust for evil things; don’t let me want to be with sinners, doing what they do, sharing their delicacies.”
Now that’s a strong statement or verse. Sometimes we really like “lust”. In the dictionary, lust is described as a. An overwhelming desire or craving: a lust for power; and b. Intense eagerness or enthusiasm: a lust for life. Many folks think of sexual gratification when they hear the word lust. However the true meaning of lust is an intense or obsessive desire.
So what are some of the things that we lust for? Money. TV shows or movies. Bigger house. Fancier cars. Christian Loubintin shoes (okay, am I the only one?). Do you get my point? You see none of these things are bad so to speak but when we have an overwhelming desire for them that we look to them more than we look to God, that’s when we’re lusting.
Many times strong desires lead to dangerous acts. Pornography and the sex trade is ramped. The Child Trafficking industry is a multi-billion dollar industry. And did you know that more money is made in child trafficking during the Super Bowl than all advertisements? It’s true!
You see, evil acts begin with evil desires. It isn’t enough to ask God to keep you away from temptation, to make you stronger, or to change your circumstances. You must ask him to change your desires!
What are you lusting today? Pray and ask God to help you to change your desires to those that please Him. Learn to lust after God’s Word and the promises He has for your life!
You can do it! I believe in YOU!
